Hot Summer Nights in downtown Sioux Falls

It's that time of year again, Corvette fans, time for the Black Hills Corvette Classic.  Hurray!  The "BHCC" is an awesome Corvette event that crosses the state of South Dakota starting in Sioux Falls and ending in Spearfish.  The 2012 BHCC is July 17-21.  This year's schedule includes Corvette drag races, charity poker runs, autocross races, road tours, seminars, and more.

The BHCC is one of my favorite Corvette events.  If you go, don't miss Hot Summer Nights on Wednesday, July 18.  It's sure to be one of the best summer festivals of the year.

Arrival into Sioux Falls for BHCC

Made it to Sioux Falls about 2 pm local time.  Traffic was light and traveling was pleasant except for a near miss with a bathroom emergency.  The public waysides were all closed in Minnesota due to a state government shut down.  The closures shut down our options for an easy restroom stop.  Yikes!  I never knew how few gas stations can be found on I-90 in Minnesota.   Each exit is at least 15 miles apart with no guarantee of a place to stop.  Things got dicey, but luckily, we made it to a Texaco station before complete disaster struck.  The trees along the roadside were starting to look pretty good. 

Only saw one State Trooper in Minnesota (rare) and also noticed that a road construction project looked abandoned (no workers on the scene; lots of empty trucks and abandoned equipment).  

We're getting sporatic light rain showers here in Sioux Falls.  Should be clearing up shortly.  

Hot Summer Nights is due to begin at 6 pm. 

On The Road

Early morning packing for the trip to the Black Hills Corvette Classic is underway.  There's a lot of stuff to put into the trunk of the Vette.   Corvette sales people say that two full-sized sets of golf clubs will fit in the trunk of a C5.  Tthey're probably right about the golf clubs.  There's a fair amount of room in there.  We always seem to pack it full on these trips, even so.

Heading out in 20 minutes.   Expect to be In Sioux Falls by mid-afternnon...

The BlackHills Corvette Classic: July 12-16

My favorite Corvette event is happening this week in South Dakota.   It's the Black Hills Corvette Classic, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Corvette Club.  This annual event kicks off in Sioux Falls with fun activities packed into Tuesday and Wednesday culminating with Hot Summer Nights on Wednesday evening.  Hot Summer Nights is one of best downtown festivals in the country featuring Corvettes, Harley Davidson motorcycles, music, and food booths. 

On Thursday, participating Corvettes will travel together in a huge 400-car Corvette caravan on a 400 mile trip across South Dakota from Sioux Falls to Spearfish.  This is something to see, for spectators and participants alike.  The event activities continue from Thursday through Saturday at Spearfish and at various scenic areas throughout the Black Hills.  This is an awesome event.  I've attended several times over the past 8 years.  Always had a great time.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the "BHCC."  Planned activities include Poker Runs, a picnic, an Autocross, several guided road tours, Vette Street, seminars, a BBQ, a casino crawl, and more.
